ABOUT

DAVID TOL – FOUNDER OF ACS: FAMILIA

ACS FAMILIA started in 2017 as a case study research project in the North of Amsterdam. I was focusing on created high-quality housing for families in this dense urban area. After finishing the project at the end of 2019, I was approached in March of 2020 by Gabriel Nagy.

ACS FAMILIA got recognised as a new development model that could have an impact and help the regeneration of Woodlawn, a community area on the south-side of Chicago. The area has a much lower population density than Amsterdam, but it was an opportunity to adapt the ACS FAMILIA model so that it could fit a wide variety of city contexts.

This collaboration resulted in architecture and urban visions for a wide variety of contexts and cities around the world.

When asked to describe myself, I see myself primarily as a family man, then as an architect, a creative and an entrepreneur. My ambition is to create designs with high spatial quality, that initiate a strong sense of community, and also to focus on social issues, such as making housing accessible for all!
